A little bit of history....
The Copley Arms is a beautiful Seventeenth Century coaching Inn set in the picturesque village of Hessenford; a small village nestled in the south east corner of Cornwall. Historically it grew up
around the bridge crossing the River Seaton.
At the beginning of the Seventeenth Century the village saw the opening of the Public House, originally
called the "Mug and Glass", which included stables and a pig sty! It changed its name to the "Copley Arms" in honour of a Georgian baronet, Sir Joseph Copley, who became a life tenant and
owner in fee simple of the parish.
During the last century. St Austell Brewery was able to purchase the pub's freehold together with adjoining property, cellars and two cottages. The building has been gradually developed and improved
since then whilst retaining the local character. Today, the "Copley Arms" provides all the facilities of a modern day hostelry with accommodation ~ but no pig sty!
